Our Genius Sister group had a fabulous time Friday evening hosting our slumber party at the Denver Press Club.
We started out by helping @whatskatebaking with packaging her baked goods for the HAHO market. Then followed up with our Cinco de Mayo themed dinner catered by yours truly featuring Chicken Enchilada with spicy chile crunch, some 505 salsas and delicious veggies, guac and hummus! Our first activity focused around trading our used clothing, so much fun to try on clothes that were old to some and new to others, everyone went home with something and lighter of a lot! Anything unwanted we are donating to the GoodWill! We ended up with 4 large garbage bags full of sweaters, tees, lots of dress pants and shoes! What a great idea! We ended up having great discussion around the topic of mental health and what we could do in our community. Someone brought up the show "13" and we thoroughly discussed and tried to find reason and value in presenting the topic of suicide in a tv. series. We couldn't find much hope in it besides the fact that it is starting a discussion. We will do not support the show being aired and hope to rally against having it continue to be out there for young teens and kids to be able to see suicide presented as an option to ending their life. There are countless resources and people that can be approached if you have any concern. There are even support and advocate groups that those who don't even have ideas or connection to suicide can asses to be able to identify those who may be contemplating suicide. We really need to be more proactive in our lives and in our efforts to help our family, friends and community. The support line for suicide prevention is here: http://www.suicidepreventioncolorado.org/ https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ 1-800-273-8255 We hope you can share, and continue the conversation is a respectful way. This is an all too real problem and one that is VERY evident in Colorado. This past week alone there were 4 suicides in Denver. Help spread the word and educate people on the resources they have available. Suicide is not the option.

This is how you do a slumber party. I can definitely say that it was a slumber party with a twist because at the end of all fun talks and activities you had, you discussed something about mental health. Though it may sound strange for some because a typical slumber party is totally different from what you had, what's important is you were able to deliver your message and you were able to bridge the cap between those who do not understand it to those who can explain it. It's a sure thing everyone was educated and had fun too!
